Or so the owner said..actually its a museum partly of astronomy and partly of "sun objects" various sun symbols from around the world collected by an artist. Some of these are beautiful and others are interesting and tell us a lot about the view of the sun held by different peoples from sun worshipping egyptians to sun fearing Indonesians. You... More

Unfortunately, the museum part of the museum is all in Latvian. I'm sure that I would have enjoyed it if I could have understood. The collection of suns is interesting and a little freaky but the best part for an English adult was the painting of the sun at the end, rediscovering the artist inside.

A collection of images of the sun from various tourist stores and a very nice explanation (in latvian) of the sun, its purpose and a quick overview of its importance to early man. However, everyone enjoys painting the little ceramic suns and that is when the friendly staff engage you and everyone has a chance to relax and have fun... More

This turned out to be a calm and relaxing break for us. So many representations of the sun and many brilliant ones. Am so glad that our youngest daughter persuaded us to paint our own plaster of paris suns at the end - very relaxing, quiet and enjoyable.

I really liked that this museum is small, cozy and not popular amongst tourists which makes it easy to enjoy. Museum has variety of suns and also very nice exhibition about sun with lots of information. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Workshop was also very enjoyable.

If you are looking for a connection to Latvian culture or history, you may be disappointed (I was). They told me the owner brought a sun back from Portugal in the 1970s, started collecting suns after that, and opened a museum. I had thought the sun was somehow important to Latvia. Anyway, if you want to learn about the sun... More

The sun collection is a growing attraction. They have very nice posters explaining the sun and astronomy as you come in, unfortunately these are all in Latvian. The collection of suns is interesting, especially the cultural suns from different countries of the world. You receive a small plaster sun as a memento as partr of your entry fee.

It is a very cozy place that fills you with positive emotions and lifts up your mood. It's both educational and playful, concentrating and relaxing. It's really different from traditional museums but worth a visit.
