This was by far the most beautiful road I have ever driven on. It runs parallel to the 101, so it's an easy diversion.

This scenic drive runs parallel to Highway 101. We tow a 40 foot 5th wheeler and were not quite brave enough to attempt to do the drive with it. So we pulled into an RV Park up the road in Eureka and came back just in our tow vehicle. The road is wide enough to accommodate a medium sized RV...

Cruising thru the Avenue of the giants is very worthwhile and an easy, scenic, turn-off along Hwy 101. Enter from the north at exit 674, Pepperwood or exit 645, Ave of the Giants from the south....or any exit in between if you miss the first one. It's inspiring to drive thru the forest filled with huge groves of magnificent, ancient...

Don't miss this drive. Slow going? Yes. Hairpin turns? Yes. Totally worth every foot? Yes. Absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. Photo ops galore. And for us, at least, an almost reverent feeling for these colossal, ancient survivors who are so majestic.
This is around a 30 mile two lane road off the 101 freeway. There are plenty of hiking trails to enjoy ancient redwood trees, creeks, rivers, ferns. Even on Memorial weekend on a beautiful day, parking to access the trails was no problem. It runs thru Humboldt State Park which has camping and Visitor Center. The drive itself is free....

We travelled from the beginning to the end of the Avenue of the Giants and it is really worth the trip. We had side stops for a gentle hike (2.6miles of easy walking), Founder's Tree and even the drive through tree! The area is absolutely magnificent and the scale of the redwoods is difficult to believe. Anybody going to California...

A taste of the redwood forest, parallel to highway. We did the 'drive your car thru a tree'. It was a little tight... Car before us tapped their mirror but a unique experience and good bathroom break and chance to stretch your legs. $5 per car fee.... We thought it was worthwhile.
We did the route from north to south. One of the best drives in America. The Avenue of Giants weaves back and forth across HWY 101 with plenty of chances to exit and enter. There are some tiny towns where you can grab snacks and souvenirs. It is pretty slow going along the Avenue of Giants with bicycles and motorcycles,...

We drove from the beginning to the end of alt 101 stopping at every visitor's site and Rockefeller Forest, Shrine Drive through tree, Richardson Grove, Visitor's Center, Founder's Tree, and the Eternal tree House. What more could you do in six hours? The ride was inspirational and often we were the only people hiking a trail; especially, in Rockefeller Forest....

Wow, what can anyone say that does justice to this drive. We were in awe of the redwoods and magnificence of the entire area. Any drive thru this area would be justified.
