While driving around Arcata we discovered the Arcata Community Forest located behind Humbolt State Univ. Wow! We couldn't believe they have their own redwood forest with many hiking trails.A wonderful surprise! Not crowded with people like Muir Woods.

This redwood park in Arcata reminds me of Muir Woods National Monument in Mill Valley (northwest of San Francisco). The Arcata Community Forest has nice hiking trails and a park to eat a picnic lunch, relax, or play. The parking lot is small, so you may have to park your vehicle some distance away and walk to this property. As... More

I go out here fairly regularly with my friends to walk around and have a good time. It's easy to get a decent sized hike in, and it's beautiful all the way. I have no real complaints about this place.

Wow, such a beautiful place! You are just going along and turn into this park and you are in a whole new world! Unfortunately there were many locals hanging around that were very unpleasant. They just stared at us, made us feel very uncomfortable so we didn't stay long. Could have spent a few hours hiking...

There is a nice public park setting in this forest. Trail heads start at the park. There is a local group that has Zip lines and tours that we will plan to take on our next visit here. The trees here are not as large as the other forests we've visited. Impressive non the less.

Miles of excellent mountain biking trails and forest roads. Deep redwood forest, with a few old growth remnant trees here and there. While the city does some logging, it is sustainable and very selective. Lots of trilliums in April. Look for the red Clintonia on the ridgetop roads in late spring. There are some homeless folks who illegally camp, but... More

On the recommendation of the proprietress of nearby Rose Court Cottage, we sought out Arcata Community Forest. We throughly enjoyed our early evening stroll through the forest. Friendly greetings from those who most likely make their walk a daily ritual. Hushed sounds of our footsteps on the soft forest floor. Gentle breezes rustling the boughs of fragrant redwoods. Patient and... More
