We had checked to make sure Independence Pass was open in late May given the recent snow; it was. The road, which contracts to a single lane in some places, was dry and clear until the very top, where we hit blowing snow, snow-covered roads, and fierce winds. We were above 12,000 feet, so that was expected. We could see... More

We drove from Denver thru Independence Pass. The mountain views are simply amazing. Seeing the mountains on the East Coast don't compare to the Colorado Rockies.

We went over Independence Pass from Twin Lakes & vice versa on Tuesday June 4th. A lot of snow everywhere! At the top of the pass, I took photos of the snow bank over 6" tall at the walkway to the scenic lookout. The path to the lookout is covered in snow & was unable to see the path itself.... More

Unbelievable beauty. If you want the mountain experience, spend part of your day taking the independence pass. It's closed a good portion of the year, but if it's open, don't miss it.

Our most recent trip over Independence Pass was to view the fall colors. We were not disappointed. We hit the road the day after a fall snow storm left several inches of the white stuff at the top of the pass, still a great trip.

We were going to Aspen for the first time and the hotel told us that the pass had just opened a week prior and what great scenery we would see. It was a very nice ride, the mountains were awesome, especially the snow capped ones. We got out of the car and took a little walk at the pass, it... More

My husband and I drove on the Pass 5/25 to Aspen and then again 5/26 back to Buena Vista, CO. The views along the way are amazing. We had great weather. (I'm not sure if I would go if snow was in the forecast.) There are some scary spots and very narrow sections but not as bad as I had... More

Kind of fun finding out what it stood for. Hated driving on the side with no mountain. We crossed two days after it opened for the season.

Just opened this last week after the annual winter closure. Road was dry, but there was snow every where. The scenery is tops; the view breath taking. The road is not for the faint hearted. If you're in Aspen, do Independence Pass!
