Volubilis ruins is where the time stopped. Great place for a romantic walk at the sunset or a family adventure. This site is truly amazing - an exodus from busy Moroccan cities. Pack a picnic and enjoy the views!!!
Just bring your camera, a good guidebook, and 20 dirham admission (a little more than $2.00) and wander for an hour or two at this beautiful site.
Loved the old ruins- spent half a day even though it was so hot. The designs and the ruins take your breath away. Loved it. Also visited the town of Moulay Idris on our way back to Meknes (had hired a cab), had a relaxing time sipping mint tea at a roadside stall.
Unmissable site on a trip in Morocco. The Roman ruins are in good condition and there are many mosaics still intact. Local guides can show your around. It is very relaxing to just walk around and look at the view. A great site which makes a difference after many old medinas.
I've been to many Roman sites in Italy and Turkey, this is up there with the best. Very nice setting with expansive views, easy to find your way around. Lots of columns sticking up for those dramatic "ruins" photos. We did it as a day trip from Fes; Meknes is much closer and would be a better place to come...

A visit to the Volubilis ruins was an unbelievable experience greatly enhaced by a very knowledgable guide, whose name escapes me. He was tall , handsome, well tanned and spoke impeccable English and wore a broad brimmed mexican hat. I thought he was an archeologist because of his subject knowledge, but it turned out that he had a masters degree...

Very well preserved ruins of an important Roman town; guide was dour but that is the luck of the draw.
The ruins are not in good shape, still under reheab. However it is a worthwhile detour from Meknes to Fes. The area is gorgeous. There are local guides and I would definately hire one.
Lovely, we spent a couple of hours with a knowledgeable guide Hassan, an historian, arranged through Naturally Morocco, enjoying the site with the added benefit of the flowers and the stork on the column with it's baby and lots of sparrow nests within it's big one.
