NEXT TIME we will go on the train ride..Ideal for those of us who still wish we had been an engine driver..
We wanted to see the station, ride the train and visit the raved about Chua Linh Phuoc pagoda and we easily managed it all in a morning.
We caught a taxi from our hotel to the station (tip:have the name of what you want in Vietnamese because the drivers more often than not can't speak English) for less than $5....

Very nice, beautiful views, it will cost you nothing, and you can have very nice walk along the railroad itself.
Go around 13:00 pm because the train leaves only when they sold enough tickets. The train stops for forty minutes, not enough time to see the pagoda and climb back down, Yet enough for a coffee stop with fellow passengers.

If you are nearby it's worth a look. Architecture very French and there's a steam train you can climb on.
The Dalat Train Station is a nice looking building...just a tourist train goes from there (I didn't ride it). An old steam locomotive sits outside, plus carriages. As another member posted below, the station is a huge "unrealised opportunity." It's a great space that more should be done with!
There's not many railway stations where you can wander at will in and out of the building, locomotives and carriages as well as across the tracks, but this is one that's well worth it for an hour.
