It is the symbol of the valour and the sacrifice of those killed in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, which brought the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistani rule. The monument is located in Savar, about 35 km north-west of the capital, Dhaka More

When we go to Bangladesh, this is a regular place to visit. It is full of history, and the monument is beautiful to look at. I suggest going in the morning to get the best pictures. The light is favourable to standing in front of the monument. More

If you are a Bangladeshi or a foreigner you must visit the national memorial if you haven't visited. This is a bit away from Dhaka at Savar. But on a weekend will not take more than 30 minutes from Dhaka. More

I visited this site on my first full day in Bangladesh - so it was a part of my acclimatisation process. First time people wanted a photo of me & with me. First time i was approached by beggars - that was at the gates. Good bird watching. The Bangladeshi's are very proud of their country and are very friendly. More
