Within the wall of this temple is a sacred hair of the Buddha. It is a small temple designed for deep meditation. It is possible to see the glass enclosure where the sacred hair is kept.

We visited in February on a particularly hot day - it's worth getting inside just to get out of the heat. There is a visitor booth in a portacabin type box room to the right of the front entrance. Just off the Strand at the end of the shipping area, it is a busy pagoda used by local people. The inner star shaped area is covered in gold paint or leaf as is the central area where the relics are displayed, and there is a lovely outdoor area with shade trees.

Mornings is the best time to visit the Pagoda. Walking in the inner side of the Pagoda is an experience... walking through the 8 pillars like corridors. From the Pagoda one can walk to the city center too.

It is so beautiful. Everything space inside the pagoda looks like made from real gold. Some Myanmar people do meditation in the small space in the pagoda so you'd better walk around quietly. Don't miss a beautiful Buddha image sent back from a museum in UK in a room outside the pagoda.

I really enjoyed my visit here, it has a quiet unassuming quality with a vague showground feel complete with pond full of giant turtles, carp. The golden interior is spectacular.
