Before I traveled back home for the first time in 4 years, I spent an afternoon here getting gifts for the entire family. There's a really nice place on the 4th floor(?) that sells hand-made and hand-embroidered goods, so I loaded up on baby shoes for the new additions in the family. More

My main destinations in Hongya Dong are Harp, Cactus and, more recently, the Japanese restaurant near them. Harp and Cactus are pricey, but offer a great selection of beer and other things people drink. 40 rmb for a shot of Jameson sucks, but at least they have it. Also has a decent, albeit random menu. But I appreciate random. Elsewhere... More

We went to Hongya not expecting much after reading some of the reviews. Sure we stopped for a coffee at Starbucks, took photos of the river view and architecture, pirate ship with the kids, walked through the 3rd floor craft market and ate at Cactus Tex Mex restaurant before heading back to our hotel. It provided a leisurely afternoon and... More

People really go here to see the view of the river and the river boats from the top level. The restaurants serving western food, bar, and some shops on the lower floors. Many also go to the bottom floor for pictures around a small cave opening etc. A popular place to find local westerners is Subway, Starbucks, Dairy Queen and... More

Renovated without any real life. It's OK looking from outside on road. Diaojiao Lou is a kind of home construction, it's common in South China say in Guizhou and Guangxi, Yunnan, but in rural area. More

The cave looks gorgeous from the street, but it is surrounded by the Hong Ya Dong Shopping place. The whole place looks really nice, built in the traditional style. The only thing that lets it down is the opening onto the cave which is just...there. More

Hongyadong spans 11 levels. On a couple you can find tourist souvenirs and other small trinkets to buy. The traditional snack street has local specialties - albeit a bit pricier than you would find in the alleyways. The upper levels have am Irish bar, Tex-Mex restaurant, Subway and DQ. All are good places to track down other foreigners in Chongqing. More
