Went to see Jogyas main sight, very disappointed. Tour guide was useless, didn't want to let us stop and look at things and was clearly bored. The exhibits are genearlly lots of pots and trinkets given as wedding presents from countries around the world, not very interesting as its nothing to do with Indonesian history, and I can see English... This shows the Muslim history in Yogya. Everything you ever wanted to know about how things really were. A english speaking guide is available at the entrance. A real eye opener. More

We went to Kraton without a guide book because we thought we would get a guide that explained everything to us. We did get a guide, but he only took us to the front pavilllions. Only later did we find out that we had not seen much of the palace such as the private rooms and the carriages. All this... More

The buildings were nice, nothing too spectacular. But our guide was great for explaining the significance of buildings and displays. Mostly, it appears to be a shrine to HB #9 - numerous displays of his belongings, childhood toys, papers, books, and displays on all the things he did during his reign. A good way to get informed on the history... More

I have read other reviews of the Kranton saying that its simplist and not a lot to see. But I loved the fact that you can simply wonder around looking at the Sultan's personal items. In some respects its like a miniture forbidden city in Beijing, but without the crowds and with plenty of places to take cover from the... More

Kraton is one of holiday destination in Jogja. But it seems that Kraton Jogjakarta is not a friendly place for baby, kids, senior citizen or any of them who need to use stroller or wheel chair as those things are not allowed to get in. I guess the management should review their policy about it More

Standing outside the Kraton in the parking lot full of trash and touts, my expectations weren't that very high from the start. However, our very pleasant guide (included in the 12,500 IDR/person admission fee + 1,000 IDR for camera) made our experience enjoyable. She guided us through the different buildings that housed displays about the former sultans and she had... More

I was told that this was a "palace" before visiting. I had seen Borobodur, Prambanan, and some buildings in Yogyakarta such as the Bank Indonesia building. So, as you can imagine, I was expecting a real palace! Unfortunately, Kraton is a humble little open area with some old pagodas. There's nothing royal about it. In fact, I was embarrassed on... More
