If you're off for the day to play golf on a neighboring island, OK, but why visit what is basically a water bus station? Minimal amenities, no charm, and in the boondocks (getting a taxi away again in the evenings after a golf game is TOUGH).

We booked a day trip to Batam online. On the whole, the day trip itself was enjoyable and a good opportunity for the kids to experience a taste of Indonesia within a limited time frame. The ferry trip was comfortable and efficient, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend travel from here.
