gorgeous views, great exercise, a wonderful way to spend a day! unfortunately there are soooo many people though on the hike, it's like a highway of climbers. But still worth it.
Awesome views from the top but very tough climb, you must have some levels of fitness to complete it!
The snow part was quite scary and tiring, it looks like a short distance from the bottom but the snow alone took about 4 hours as it was so steep and we had to climb in a zig zag pattern.
Definitely...

We went with patagonia experience (next to the fire station). You pay a little extra but the service was amazing. Even give you a de-brief at the end with snacks and a beer. So my tips are if you have little experience pick these guys. If you want to join a long train but save money and can use crampons...

The lift wasnt working when we climbed (Jan 2013). The climb is hard work, but achievable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Views at the top breathtaking. The ride down on sleds (which we had actually been quite scared about, was massively good fun). Went up with Aguaventura who were very professional.
We hired tour guides from the Patagonia agency. They were wonderful ! and spoke great English.
Peter and Mario were our favorite guides. They were patient and allowed us to rest as we climbed the Villarrica volcano and descended the volcano caves.
The Patagonia company has several choices for hikers based on their fitness level and experience. We did the...

I climbed Mount Villarrica volcano with the Aguaventura tour company. I am rating the climb a 5 as the guides were very good and the experience though very physically challenging was very rewarding. I do not recommend Aguaventura as an outfitter or tour company for several reasons. I feel they did not do a good job of preparing me for...

We set out to climb Villarrica without giving much thought to the actual trek itself- it all sounded like a FAB idea! LIVE volcano, get to the crater, grampons, ice axes, sliding down..what's to think about?! Will start of by saying this is one heck of a trek and one should be in somewhat decent shape to go up. My...

great experience, and worth the effort, but you need to expect to work hard. We had a great guide, david, but there is danger involved. Just be reasonable, and listen to your guide. The bad PR that relates to the deaths is not guide or service involed, just inherent to climbing.
I climbed Mount Villarrica with the Summit Chile expeditions company, a very professional and super well organized company, with great guides and an all around great experience. Their price was equal or similar to any other company taking tours up the volcano. I was impressed with the way they organized all our equipment and had all our jacket, pant and...
