If you can, go to the bus station and take the bus to Vina del Mar. Only there take a local tour. You don't stay stuck and may ask for the best places to go.

I went on a private tour (a friend and myself) to 3 wineries in the Maipo Valley!
The wine was great..... But the tour guide/driver was AMAZING!
If you have the chance to book with Alvin Schuler (german name...... however 100% Chilean)..... you will LEARN SO MUCH about the culture, history and every-day "little things" (the things you REALLY can...

We prebooked 2 tours with itours prior to arriving in Santiago. 1) The city tour + Concha y Toro Winery and 2) Valparaiso + Casablanca Winery Tour. The tours were approximately the same price - around $100 USD per person which included pick up and drop off at our hotel. On the first tour, there were 6 individuals including us...

I did a 3 hour city tour with him and...

Excelent Trip to the vinedos, Viña Del Mar, Valparaiso! Great team! Looking forward coming back to Chile
Booked this trip by chance the evening before, and did not know much except that we were stopping by Valparaiso.
Out guide, "Gato", was excellent. Very knowledgeable and laid back. However the program is a little on the thin side. The restaurant that was chosen for lunch was very touristy and expensive, but ok food.
There's not much to see...
