The hike, it is a hike, is absolutely beautiful with the surrounding mountains and terrain. It isn't too confusing to follow, cross the Inca Bridge on your way out of town (just walk out past where you came in on the bus, and then head down the winding road until you get to a little alleyway where you can walk... The walk itself is stunning with amazing views, but we encountered a serious problem; an aggressive pack of stray dogs. We were just the two of us on our own and on our way back down the mountain. We got to the trees around the Inca Pool and a pack of dogs came out of the trees very aggressively. We... More

Found the Inca Wheel and one cave full of skulls. Nothing is marked so you are on your own. Others say that there are 9;8;6;2; or 1 cave with skeletons but I only found one. Took me 5 long hours to hike to top quarry.

If you decide to walk to the quarries, plan for 4+ hours, the walk has awesome views of the valley, and even if you don't make the quarries, going on the Inka Trail for just that short of distance- is really cool.

The distance from the Ollantaytambo town square to the quarry is 6.5 km. It is an uphill walk and mostly a gentle slope. The quarry is a grey rocky area on the side of a hill with some shaped rocks and small circular buildings (the photos describe it better). My timing was 90 minutes walking each way plus half an... We started out at 10:30 and were back in town by 3 o'clock for a late lunch. We only went part of the way, but saw the first quarry and more. We absolutely loved this hike. In March there are many interesting species of plants in flower and you go through quite a number of microclimates. Near the start of... More

I started to late in the day to make it all the way there, but the hike is gradual and not hard. I especially liked the view back to the ruins, the trains and Ollantaytambo
