The Cathedral is a beautiful building in the middle of Sofia it was a bright sunny day when we visited which showed the Cathedral in all its splendour
This is the most beautiful cathedral in the Balkans - very impressive, situated in the center of the town. The golden roofs are shining during the day and they are seen from far away.
Especially at night. It is a cross-domed basilica built in neo-byzantine style featuring an emphasized central dome. It hosts relics of Saint Alexander Nevsky. The cathedral was built to comemorate the Russian soldiers who died in the Liberation war against Ottoman rule. The cathedral is the second-largest on the Balkans after the Belgrade cathedral.

This was seriously amazing at night. It's also stunning inside but sadly photographs aren't allowed.
It is surely an icon of Sofia and hence surely a must see. Agree with others that the magnificence of the interior doesn't quite match up to tht of the exterior. One can surely spend a short while here and then go down onto the yellow cobbled path with many a interesting sight on the way.
Built to remember the many Balkan, Russian and Scandinavian soldiers and journeymen who died fighting the Ottoman Turks to free and create Bulgaria. No chairs inside and photography forbidden so enjoy the unique atmosphere and beautiful if austere architecture. Find a moment to visit the nearby 'Tomb of the Unknown Bulgarian Soldiers' with its everlasting flame and touching tributes. Just... More
Maybe one of the most important sightseeings in Sofia. Really beautiful and impressive from outside, not so well conserved inside. The entrance is free, although you have to pay 6 Lev to visit the Crypt Icon Museum. .
Any visit to Sofia must include a visit to this huge church. It's not as old as other monuments in Sofia but it is one of the city's symbols. I do agree with another reviewer that the exterior is in need of some upkeep. If you want to really get a feeling for the soul of the Slavic peoples, attend... More
