the trip to st Michael's is magic - you go up the mountain on a funicular railway and have a view of the whole city and the river. St. Michaels is in the old town - it was destroyed in 1937 and lovingly rebuilt - its a great place to wander. Lots of cafes and shops around the area

It's breathtaking, and well worth the $6 fee to get in. It's wrong that the nearby mineatures museum is the #1 rated attraction in Kiev. This should be it. Enjoy!

to Orthodox churches! A great sight with many interesting features. Icons were striking. Self guided "tour" is very easy.

It is my favorite place in Kiev! I visited it at first in July 2012 and returned in May, 2013. It's breathtaking... I like just to walk around in the evening, watch the people and wait for the bells ...

After visiting St Sophia's I didn't think I would be impressed with other churches. I was however proved wrong as our next stop St Michael's, was just as impressive but in a different way. Located close to Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), St. Sofia Cathedral is just opposite if you walk through the beautiful square. I am not an extremely religious person but this place makes me feel the spiritual atmosphere. Also has a nice park and territory. This is a lovely church. It is filled with chandeliers, oil lamps, and of course, icons. The icons in this church are particularly beautiful and reminded me of art from the Italian Renaissance. My favorite part of this Cathedral were the religious relics and all of the beautifully preserved paintings and murals.
