to see, resplendent with domes, gilt work, icons, exposed layers of construction, etc. A place of peace in the midst of a busy city.

The main church is quite beautiful and reminded me of a smaller, more delicate Agia Sophia in Istanbul. Make sure you visit the second floor to get a better view of the iconography.

The is one of the few cathedrals in Kiev you have to pay to enter, however this is money well spent. Establishing which type of ticket you need was a little confusing. You have to specify which areas you want to visit, however this is difficult upon arriving when you don't know what any of the buildings are! We just... More

A majestic cathedral and symbol of Kiev. The entry tickets are cheap but Grivni are required. The view from the tower is worth the climb. Once at the top, one can look down to the courtyard, view St. Michael's Cathedral, and look at the fancy gold domes of Sophia from a superior perspective.

Located in the heart of the city not too far away from Khreshchatyk and the Maidan (Metro Station: Zoloti Vorota), St Sophia's Cathedral stands tall as one of the greatest architectural achievements of the Kievan Rus'. The name comes from the 6th century Hagia Sophia Cathedral, which was located in Constantinople at the time. The dates in which the first... More

I absolutely loved St. Sophia's. Although Kyiv is full of beautiful onion-domed churches, this one takes the cake. The inside is just unlike anything I've ever seen before - it's too bad they don't let you take pictures! You do pay to go in this church, but it's worth every penny. It's colorful and unique. An absolute must-see when in... More

This place breathes Christian history! I spent there about 4 hours visiting every corner of this site and grasping every piece of info I could get from descriptions and guides. It was very nice to see how Kiev developed around this cathedral, how Christianity changed this old city, inspired artists, architects and local leaders. You must go up the bell... More

One of the most beautiful churches in Kiev and Europe actually. Walking inside you can feel holly inspiration and old age of the place.

The catherdral is one of the most impressive buildings in Kiev both externally and internally. Luckily, I time my visit at the time of a service which made for a more memorable experience.

We did not go inside the grounds to look at all the different parts of this church complex but the thing that was definitely worth it is the bell tower. It opens up a gorgeous view of Kiev. Just make sure you've got the legs to walk up all those stairs, but it's definitely worth the climb!
