We went to Danar Hadi museum, shop and restaurant again this year. Last year we did the museum in depth which is breathtaking. This visit was to have delicious Gado Gado in Soga restaurant and buy some silk batik. The shop is huge and the staff are very knowledgable. The batiks here are hand printed and machine printed. Everything is... More

Excellent large batik museum plus traditional style hand made batik manufacturing. The entrance fee (for the Museum, shop is free entry) is expensive (for Indonesia) at 1DR 25,000 each but you do get a knowledgeable guide to take you around and you not only see the museum part but afterwards get taken around the small 'factory' behind where you can... I spent about 3 hours at Danar Hadi, starting with an excellent lunch at their restaurant. I was the only customer, though I've no idea why it wasn't packed with people. I ate a medley of traditional food from Solo, which gave me a wonderful opportunity to try local favourites, and it was delicious. The museum was fascinating and very... More

It is not merely a museum but also a show room for one of the most well known batik factory in Solo or maybe in Indonesia. U can find fabrics and clothes for all family member here. Not to mention that the prices are reasonable. Their collections are classic, elegant and traditional. You should at least bring back a piece... More

You may think that you owned a batik clothes while its actually just a printed batik motif clothes. From the explanation of the actual ancient batik making process, you going to see that the price cannot be so cheap after all. The overwhelming number of batik motif on the market may also blinds us of the batik history itself, because... More

I knew how to make batik from my elementary school. But I didn't know that to get 3 color batik, it is required to be 8 steps to be processed. In this museum I learn how to process the tedious processes which can take minimum 3 months up to 1 year to make batik. Batik means the gray fabric should... More

A small museum with the attached batik factory (also open for visitors) run by one of the biggest, if not the biggest batik producers in the country. A big collection of batik and excellent guide (English speaking). You will learn the history of batik as well as the meaning of the key patterns. The way of batik production will be... More

Unfortunately our visit was seriously impaired by the staff in the museum. After visiting numerous Batik producing and exhibiting places we were looking really forward to visit Danar Hadi. While we were welcomed anywhere else in the warmest and most courteous manner, the staff at Danar Hadi gave us a cold, uninterested and downright arrogant welcome. It is truly pitiful... More
