A visit to Sukarara is a must for tourist who are keen to learn about Lombok's culture in weaving. I learnt that women in Sukarara need to learn the art of weaving before they can get married. My two daughters learn how to weave. My family even try Lombok traditional costume for a family photo in front of a traditional... More

I hired a driver/tour guide and asked to see weaving demonstrations. He took me to Sukarara, which is east of Mataram. At the village, an English-speaking tour guide walked me around the village to see the women weaving songket in their houses or on their porches. There is a cooperative store where you can try weaving songket and the store... More
