Miletus is one of the must visits if you are in Ionia. Dating back to 13th century BC, this city used to be one of the most important ports of the era and thus, it was a lively city where culture and commerce bloomed. The remnants today are still extremely impressive. The port side is much more impressive than the... More

This is a gem of a site which for some reason has not attracted the support of western institutions. The only recently restored bit is a garish orange and white mosque which says reams about the current Turkish government. Ideal for a gentle stroll.

The highlight of Miletus is the theater as the rest of the site is not yet fully excavated and given that it now sits in swampland may not be for some time.

Miletus was for us one of the topics on our West Turkey tour. The ompressive old theater was great. Don't forget to walk to the old harbor. That place is really unbeatable. This harbor was very important in those days. Now the remains are in a fantastic surrounding of nature, with many many frogs living here. There are in the... More

The impressive ruins were brought to life by the fable re the failed attempt by city states to unite against the Persians.

Just there yesterday. We went in the late afternoon and though still hot was much nicer time to visit. Our family thoroughly enjoyed it, the amphitheater was quite impressive. We walked all around it, imagining how it was for the people of the day.The walkways under the various tiers were surprisingly intact in places and made us realise that stadium design hasn't... Another fine theatre to see. The council chamber of the reign of Antiochus IV is well preserved. It was a wet day, but that didn't get in the way of spending quality time there.

Difficult to imagine such a big and glorious city on the site, but it is still lot to be seen there - including a big theatre, paved roads and ruins of a numerous buildings. Everything is very vell presented on the explaining signs of every attraction, in english. There is also a kind of an open-air museum a bit away... More
