Gifu Castle is on the top of Mt Kinka. To get there, take a bus from Gifu Station (200 yen) to Gifu Park which is at the bottom of Mt Kinka. The cable car Station is next to the park. Cable car cost (as at Nov 2011) for adult is 600 yen one way or 1050 yen for round trip....

but nice views from the top. The climb up kinku mountain to get to this shrine is the most fun bit of this place. Sometimes there are samurai hanging out in the castle.

There's several different paths up to Gifu Castle, plus the ropeway for a fee. I would definitely take the paths, at least one way, to get the full experience.
