We arrived Hakone from Kyoto. From Kyoto to Odawara by shinkansen. And we bought the 2-day Hakone Free pass eventhough we just be there for day trip. It is a slow train ride-pls dont compare it with shinkansen! ;).This is the first time I ever been on a switchback railway. Very nice experince! The scenery is soo beautiful because of...

Do the complete tour around Hakone, not only the railway! Personally I done a 2-days Hakone Freepass (3900 yen) departing from Odawara JR Station. During the Sakura's period was impressive. The area covered by the railway is full of Hotels with Honsen. Continue the tour on Hakone Tozan CableCar (the driver got a funny "Topo Gigio"-style voice), Hakone Ropeway, Hakone...

u are on vacation, so do not expect bullet train speed. Take a slow train ride and enjoy it.

This is a switch-back railway... the first I've been on. It loses (or gains) height by zig-zagging a couple of times on the hillside. Well worth a visit.

My suggestions for touring the hakone area are
- go in may or June where weather is good. We went in April and didn't see mt fuji cuz it was cloudy and raining.
- go from Tokyo to hakone yumoto via odawara, bringing only an overnighter or backpack, buy 2 day hakone pass from odawara, do the tour from hakone...

Good service getting people into and around the Hakone area. We didn't have the gorgeous scenic views advertised on the promotional websites, but that's because of the season we went - before spring blossoms bloomed. The train ride must be spectacular at the right time of year. The same company owns the buses that run all around Hakone - much...

This switch back train is fun to ride. Even though you think you'll never get to you destination, you eventually wind up there. The views from any seat are breathtaking, and the scene is constantly changing. Even the little ones are excited to be riding this train.

The short rail trip from Gora to Souzan station only takes 10 minutes but is well worth it. The view form the top is beautiful. You can then go on further on the cable car to the mountain top..
