Zen rock garden, I think one of the biggest.. if not the biggest. Gorgeous to look at, but lots of people and stinky feet - you have to take your shoes off and some people might ... smell. nice walk up there, very gorgeous though.

A peaceful and quiet temple, without the crowds. There are a lot of beautiful Japanese gardens and a zen rock garden, with the cherry tree in full bloom during Spring when I was there.

Kodai-ji would probably be my favorite among the places I have been in kyoto. Not much people and the place is very calm and peaceful. Spent almost an hour just looking at the gardens and weeping sakura. This is good place just to relax and enjoy the scenery without the crowds.

The temple was beautifully lit during the night visit that I made. It was the only temple that was open for night visits being the first week of November. It was really a sight to wonder! I had visited Kiyomizu Dera 2 years before, but I found that it cannot compare to Kodaiji!

Looks great, but couldn't get into it. small streets around it are amazing and interesting to stroll through.

All the historic sites are amidst beautiful grounds. All the temples we visited were beautiful. They are all "functioning" temples, so do not take photos in the halls. All are wonderfully maintained and awe inspiring.

This place is truly spectacular at night-time when it's lit up! I was blown away! It was magical, unforgettable and in my top 2 Japan experiences of all time. I see it as a must do in Kyoto! (see attached pics)
It's not very large and I haven't been there during the day (probably worth visiting during day & night)....
