Fort Santiago is within Intramuros and well worth a visit. There are a number of attractions within the fort. A guided tour is unnecessary as you can see everything you wish by yourself. The park houses well-preserved legacies from the Spanish Colonial Period including Jose Rizal memorabilia at the Rizal Shrine.

I liked Fort Santiago in comparison to the rest of Manila's tourism opportunities, the writings of Rizal are extremely interesting to read and the park area is well maintained. Any tourist guide will tell you Manila is not a wealth of places to visit but if you have a day to spare you may as well visit Fort Santiago.

Maybe there are parts you can walk around for free but we paid to get in. There's not much else historical so it's worth visiting this place. Nice ruins, a bit of historical information, the Rizal Shrine is there and you have views over the stinky river.

I had previously been here more than two decades ago so I was pleasantly surprised to see the information and atmosphere is now good and quite conducive to a reasonably informative visit. Manila is limited for historical sights so this is as good as it gets. Only about 20 people visiting while we were there so you can escape the crowds here

It just makes you appreciate and be proud of all the heroic deeds and martyrdom of Jose Rizal and the other rebels of way back.
