There are a lot of trains cars outside and three floors of exhibits inside. It was definitely interesting. We had a three-year old with us and she delighted in the toy train setup, so it's a place you can take even a fairly small child and keep them entertained.

There are three parts to this museum: the main displays, the outdoor train car exhibit and roundhouse, and the gift shop. The main displays are fantastic with a lot of hands-on learning about railroads in general, the Pennsylvania RR itself and the city of Altoona. From multimedia installations to a dramatic and beautiful HO scale model train layout, this is... More

We had a return trip to the museum this weekend. We were there about 8 years ago too. The lay out of the desplays is done well and the orginization makes sense. There are enough interactive exhibits to keep little kids happy. Good way to spend a few hours.

Didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. If you are a railroad buff or interested in the impact the railroad had on Altoona then this is a must stop. The museum covers 3 floors and shows two movies which I suggest seeing first as they will help put some of the displays in perspective. Well worth the 2... More

The museum is a real gem buried deep within a city that once was the largest railroad center in the world. Here you will learn about the men and women who helped to build and maintain the Pennsylvania Railroad. A community that grew up and declined around the railroad. Born and raised in Altoona, I often travel back to visit... More

If you have ANY interest in railroading or Altoona history, this is the place to see, along with Horseshoe Curve. You can easily spend several hours here. If you plan to do it in a couple of hours, you will want to return another day!

Our time was limited the day we visited but would love to return. There is so much to see, read, and absorb about history, it would be worth spending a whole day there. Railroad engine sound effects made the displays seem real. Recorded messages by railroad workers were very interesting to listen to. This place is a must see when... More

I should not have listened to the reviews that claimed this was an interactive museum and great for kids. I have 3 boys (4, 6, and 11) and I was sorely disappointed. First, you have to get he combo pass even though Horseshoe Curve was closed for the season, so it cost $50 for us to get in. The only... More

The museum is very informative and well layed out. They have a playroom for kids to play with trains.
