Don't rush - there is so much to see and to learn....there is more to LBJ than one knows.... We've been here twice and it did not disappoint....will go back again..
We visited the LBJ library/museum expecting to only stay an hour or two. We were wonderfully surprised by how extensive and well done the exhibits are. We left after a couple of hours only because we had another obligation later in the afternoon. I would have liked to have stayed longer and been able to read more about some of... More
The newly renovated LBJ library has some very nice new displays. It is a nice walk back in time. I would also recommend the LBJ Ranch and childhood home in Stonewall, Texas, which is about an hours drive from Austin.
This is a wonderful museum with well thought out displays, exhibits and films. If you have the time listen to recordings of some of his phone calls. The museum is free but you can make a donation.
Everything you ever wanted to know about LBJ's presidency is here in exhibits that intrigue and inform. The place is huge, so wear comfortable shoes and plan on spending at least 3 hours. There is a gift shop, but no restaurant. A small cafeteria is in a university building next door. Docent-led guided tours are available.
I ventured over to the LBJ library one afternoon while in town and I was pleasantly surprised at what I learned. I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never visited a Presidential Library before. It was intriguing to learn more about the politics of my parents’ generation. Music, TV shows, magazines, and art from the era are on display near the entrance; which brought context to the social issues of LBJ’s administration. Overall, it was time well spent.
This library is very well done about the history of LBJ's life. There are 3 floors to walk through, and many things to read. There isn't a cost but a suggested donation. If you have some time, I recommend a visit.
