I visited Burle Marx site just to see a different side of Rio de Janeiro. My interest to landscape is quite transversal, but last year I visited Katsura Gardens in Kyoto and I was amazed at the universe they created there (a must I recommend to any friend visiting Japan). I thought Burle Marx would be a different approach to... More

First, you must make reservations. Tours in English and Portuguese. In Rio's summer this is very hot and humid. Bring water and a towel. The place is wonderful, lots of unexpected views and different types of gardens. Burle Marx's house and his collections are well worth seeing. Before the tour, consider lunching at one of the nearby fish and seafood... More

This is a must see while visiting Rio. It took us two busses and two hours to get there, but we made it- and we don't even speak Portuguese! It was an incredible experience to gain some insight of Burle Marx; who he was as a person, artist, and landscape architect. He was a pioneer in using native plant specimens... More

Amazing place! Beautiful gardens with magnificent works of art by Roberto Burle Marx and many other Brazilian artists of international renown. Chapel of the 17th century very well preserved. Trip unforgettable!

Many visitors to Rio may not get to see these gardens. We were told by a friend that it is worth a visit and enjoyed the experience. It is important to book in advance as there are two tours a day with English or Portuguese guides. The best way to get there is by taxi and it takes a full... More

Amazing gardens, but extremely dificult to get there. Not acessible by bus, only by taxi(be prepared to pay very expensive rates as it is very far away from the main city) or car.

In Barra de Guaratiba, a little bit far from downtown! Book a visit, It's worth the trip. Burle max is a icone in his area. What a place to be! good to visit with children.

My wife is a landscaper, loves Burle Marx and was determined to visit. It is an hour taxi ride out of Rio. You have to reserve. If you are late you can't get in. It is a guided tour with guards surrounding you so you cannot leave the tour and wander the grounds. I hated it. Perhaps if you 'get'... More

If you are staying more than 3 days in Rio and you with to see "another" Rio, don't miss Sitio Burle Marx. The reservation is absolutely necessary and if you are going in the high season it must be done in advance ( a couple of days before) because, in order to preserve the nature, only a limited number of... I had the free time, and low expectations.. but was stunned and amazed at this inexpensive enlightening tour. The location takes time and a little local knowledge to find - but the two hours admiring the incredible talent of Burle Marx was more than I imagined. Go if you love plants, the outdoors, art, collecting..
