Lots of people and lots of shops selling the same thing over and over--head up onto the hill above town for some peace and coffee at sunset with a wonderful view over the roofs of the town.

Its a maze! There are many many cobblestone lanes and winding paths. Countless shops and bargaining a must. Architecture is beautiful, little glimpses of courtyards with potted plants and bird cages. Naxi folk dancing, haunting music floating from different directions, countless restaurants and many bars. There is a lot to see and a lot of repitition but its worth visiting...

Lijiang old town is very nice, but full of tourists. We stayed in Shuhe and after visiting the 'must see' places there, we wanted to return as soon as possible

Very commercial, very busy but worth a vist. It is a good idea to buy your old town ticket (80 RMB per person) as you find it is needed when visiting other attractions in the area. No checks for the ticket in the old town itself.
This old town is really pretty and attractive but there are a great many tacky souvenir shops which are worth a miss. it is also very busy. There are some Artisan shops which are very interesting and sell good quality items. It is best to see this town early in the morning before all the other tourists are out because it...
