Apart from the temple and ambiance, you can simply seat for hours doing nothing nothing and still feel peace in side.
Very beautiful bhajans wre being sung inside...fellow visitors are civilised...no pushing around or elbowing. Hang around the place and try to understand the sikh history...the history of their gurus and the history of the temple. It's worth time spent. Have the prasad, it's very tasty and full of love.
Good place spiritual rejuvenation, go to amritsar and visit this place it is always nice to be here and very calming to be here.

Service is the worship of god, and Golden temple (Harmandir Sahib) is a testimony of it. Despite of huge influx of devotees cleanliness inside the temple is remarkable. Don't forget to cover your head with scarf to visit the temple.
Gets very busy these days. The place is breathtaking, even if you can't get inside the Golden temple itself. The sikhs are very friendly, and will feed you and make you welcome. Went seven years ago and have been going back ever since.
Visited Golden Temple with family recently (Mar 2013) late in the evening. The temple has a charm of its own and you feel quite at peace.
