If conditions are right (no storm, sea turtles arrive early enough) you will see large female green sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches, then watch as their eggs are transplanted to a supervised incubation field to await hatching. You will also see a batch of new hatchlings released to the sea. I went there expecting this to be... More

Turtles are treated with respect here, not like in peninsular Malaysia where in the past, tourists were allowed to jump on the giant turtles as they made their way back to sea. More

Went here as part of an Intrepid Travel tour package. Advisable to book ahead of time. The island's good because it limits the number of guests - and there were maybe ~30 of us. Great way to spend time at a gorgeous beach (snorkels available for hire), with gorgeous sunset, and learn a bit about turtle conservation in the evening.... More

I wanted to see the hatchlings and i did!! Around 9 o clock the tutle rangers came to tell us there was a turtle we could see laying eggs. After that we released the hatchlings. The island is nice, the rooms and the food are good. And you get a lot of information about the turtles and the program, what... More

We just returned from the island. After reading some of the reviews, I think it needs to be pointed out that the only reason to go is to see the turtles do their thing. If you expect top notch food, service and accommodation, you will be disappointed. But if you are really hoping for an experience you can not get... More

After leaving sandakan on a fast and bumpy boat ride the small coral island of turtle island appears with its sister islands dotted nearby. This is a consevation site so your needs are secondary to the turtles that come nightly to these islands to lay their eggs. After a pleasent day hunting monitor lizards,( that are allowed to roam the... More

What an experience! We loved to get to this small paradise island and learn so much about the turtles. Just walking on the beach you can see traces of the turtles coming at night to nest. you need to stay overnight to get to see the turtles, as soon as the sun goes down and gets dark they start coming... Lets put this straight... The accomodation is budget but it is not what you are there for... The snorkling is good. Clear water = good view of fish and coral. Better then what i expected. Or You can lay on the beach under a tree an relax. The turtles are absolutely amazing and worth every dollar you pay to go... More

33 turtles landed the night we were there - incredible. Accommodation and meals basic but what an experience. Rather manic when the group were taken to the first viewing but take a step back and let the crazy photographers do their thing and then you can enjoy More

Watching a big female green turtle laying eggs within centimetres didn't seem real! It felt like we were watching through a TV screen. The hatchlings scampering down the beach was another highlight! Dislikes - snorkelling is fairly average but I'm used to the Great Barrier Reef and the coral triangle; and there isn't much else to do but wait for... More
