The cave is neither as large nor as well maintained as the caves at Miri, but if you are only in the area for a day or so and like caves and hiking through the tropical rain forest, this is a good stop.

Great caves accessible by well maintained walkways through the park. Even seeing the bamboo strutures built by the birds nest collectors with your own eyes then still defy belief. Good value accomodation at park headquarters.

We stayed the night in the nearby town of Batu Niah and walked to and from the caves. Wouldn't recommend doing that: ended up being a total of 13 km! probably a wonderful histric site, but I just could not stand the smell inside the caves. It is the smell of urine of swiftlets.

The Niah caves are must see and a must experience. Although the floor at times is slippery and laced with bat guano (you may never want to wear your shoes again), it is a once in a lifetime. I recommend going in and turning off your flashlight when you get to the deepest darkest area you can, just to learn...

we rented a car-hertz MYR$88/day web offer, pick up from the airport, turn left to Medeka Mall to have lunch at the food court-large selection, and some supermart stuff with 2 spermart in that building, then do a uturn and head to batu niah, 100 km approx away, took about 1 hr plus.

even though the first human in borneo was discovered here, but this cave is already polluted by previous visitors who engraved their own signature and drawings at the cave wall. above that, journey to this cave is still worth the money.

This is a great place for visitors who do not want to trek through the jungle as it has a good boardwalk all the way to the Caves. The boat trip across the creek is a good way to start the experience and then its on to the trek which is very gentle although quite long.
