Well worth a visit. We went by tuk tuk from Mysore. The carvings and architecture are mostly in pristine condition and amazing. You should also visit the little shop outside which sells some wonderful pieces. We didn't buy anything because we had a lot more travelling to do but they seemed excellent value even without negotiating.

If you want to see works of exqusite art in stone, somnathpur is worth a visit. I am always a lover of Historical places and sculpture of ancient times.
A visit to somnathpur temples are worth visiting in search of our historical marvels about 38 Kms from Mysore connected road. You can take bus but advisable take a cab.

For one day trip around Bangalore and Mysore Somnathpur temple seems an attractive choice .(137 Km from Bangalore and 35 Km from Mysore )
The temple structure is in excellent condition and is a real treat for the visitors who have an interest in ancient Indian architecture from South India.
Apart from the temple complex there nothing to see ....

Excellent architecture. Carvings are very fine and detailed. A must visit place en-route on BLR-Mysore. Road from Mysore to Somanathpur via Bannur is good and from Somanathpur to Mysore road is very bad shape.
