Great that this place is still free to visit - nothing is free for foriegn faces in India! Its crowded, its dirty and there are touts with cameras everywhere but you can't go to Mumbai and not visit the gateway to India.

We could see this monument from our balcony at the Taj Mahal Palace Tower and have to admire its symbolism and simplicity whilst it stands at the entrance into Mumbai and India beyond. From a tourist perspective, good place to spend some time and take some pictures. Also you can take a ferry ride there.
The Gateway to India proved to be much less overwhelming as we thought it'd be.
While the monument IS impressive, the entire area surrounding it (excluding the Taj hotel) is filthy and noisy.
If you take a look at the sea, you'd see literally piles of trash floating, and nobody cares.

I wasn't that interested at first to see this landmark but once I got there I was very impressed and pleased. There was also a band playing as we got there and a lot of people around which made the whole atmosphere very nice to be around.
Gate way in front of taj hotel, a place must in mumbai, enjoyed taking pic, took boat ride, please keep change, as this boat guys might not have change with them, u can athen seat in front of park and enjoy sea and gate way
