We could see this monument from our balcony at the Taj Mahal Palace Tower and have to admire its symbolism and simplicity whilst it stands at the entrance into Mumbai and India beyond. It is great to see it up close also and walk completely around it but the best view is from out at sea. Take a thirty minute... More

The writings on the Gateway of India "Erected to commemorate the landing in India of their Imperial Majesties King George V and Queen Mary on the Second of December MCMXI" I wanted to visit this monument since a long time. I was very happy to see it. It was very crowded, many people come here every day. Photographers were asking... More

Please do not be confused between India Gate (which is in Delhi) & Gateway of India (situated near the Hotel Taj in South Mumbai) History: The Gateway of India is a monument built during the British Raj in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India. It is located on the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area, South Mumbai and overlooks the Arabian Sea.The... More

From a tourist perspective, good place to spend some time and take some pictures. Also you can take a ferry ride there.

The Gateway to India proved to be much less overwhelming as we thought it'd be. While the monument IS impressive, the entire area surrounding it (excluding the Taj hotel) is filthy and noisy. If you take a look at the sea, you'd see literally piles of trash floating, and nobody cares. This is particularly sad, as this is supposed to... More

I ACTUALLY VISITED THIS INDO GOTHIC STRUCTURE FIRST IN THE YEAR 1973,but as I live in MUMBAI I keep on visiting these sites again &again. The majestic getaway reads constructed to welcome his majesty the Crown PRINCE & THE DUCHESS in the year 1911. Was completed well after their arrival in INDIA. It stands on the Arabian Sea front majestically... More

Oh how I wished there were no seggregations --- all that huff & puff of checking bags & the rest of the works ----- but then it really was huge but very sublime in its design --- looked natural with all people milling around & some in the 'Q' for thar sea ride of the Queen ----- & the hundreds... I wasn't that interested at first to see this landmark but once I got there I was very impressed and pleased. There was also a band playing as we got there and a lot of people around which made the whole atmosphere very nice to be around.
