It is a great place to go for a family picnic, a walk around the lake and or just to enjoy nature and take a breather from work. The park is located in south Huntsville. If you haven't been to the Madison County Nature Trail, you'll be pleasantly surprised. The park was the idea of James Record and the Madison County Commission built it 1975. There is a pavilion, plenty of picnic tables, wooden rocking chairs, restrooms, a small chapel, Charles Green's (whom Green Mountain was named after) log cabin, Sky Lake (where only seniors and youth are allowed to fish), and a 2.2 mile walking trail. There is a labeled braille trail to help the blind enjoy the sounds and smells of nature. Recently a senior trail became a new addition to the premises, featuring an easy path close to the pavilion with two benches for resting. If you are wanting a true break from it all and trip back into nature, the Madison County Nature Trail on Green Mountain in Huntsville Alabama is the place for you. « less

Lovely getaway close by the city. The wife and I have been coming up here for twenty years and never tire of it. Lovely and peaceful. A wedding chapel and pavillion are available to use for free! (make reservations!) Being some bread to feed the ducks!

Our first family hike, since moving to the area 2 months ago. I'm glad we picked this trail. There was a very knowledgable guide that greeted us and showed us the route. He told us how to find the state's oldest Elm tree and an old whiskey still near the Spring House. The comfortable temperature helped us enjoy the trail.... More

The nature trail area is just a few miles from downtown Huntsville. I really just went for the covered bridge, but the area is really nice. There are trails and an area set up for having a picnic. There are also restrooms. The walk to the covered bridge is less than half a mile and it is nice. Admission is... More

My favorite place in the heat of the Summer is a trip to Green Mountain for the shaded canopies. There was quite a bit of poison ivy, but hey, that is no big deal as long as you aren't grabbing it. My 4 year old on the other hand loves picking up anything and everything, so I have to keep... More

It was beautiful with the leaves changing colors. Make sure you check out the covered bridge on the trail!

This is an excellent place to hike, have a picnic, visit with friends or family. My church goes here once a year to have breakfast. I go myself with my dog several times a year. The fall is the best time to go although in the summer it is cooler than anywhere else around.

This trail captures the beauty this area has to offer. Well maintained land and breathe taking views. The bridge is a great photo opportunity.

Great place for family walks or picnics. It is also a great place for church picnics. It is so peaceful and quiet and well kept. My family has been going up on Green Mountain for 30 years and we still love it. Going to Green Mountain is like going to another time, another place for a few hours. It reminds... More

I frequently visit Green Mountain Nature Trail. It's my "off" day hike. I can walk/hike with family or friends and not feel like I'm overdoing a workout. The scenery is beautiful and wildlife abundant-fish, turtles, geese, squirrels, great for younger children 4-up. Pretty location for photographers too! I've never taken a picnic meal but lots of people do.
