This is such a magical park. Beautiful moss covered trees, good jogging/walking trails, right down to the ocean. I've heard it's an excellent place to watch whales, but as they had already left for Hawaii, and I was going there also, I wasn't too disappointed. This park does not disappoint, even without the whales

Beautiful natural setting in Sitka Spruce forest with many hiking trails and lakes. Coastal trails and view points high over the ocean. Beaches and dramatic coastal cliffs, Rocky shores with many tide pools. Bunker houses a WW II military museum, remainders of war fortifications throughout the park. Camp ground in natural forest setting, Picnic shelter and beach-side picnic area. Further... More

Go during low tide to see the local sea life. We took a hike with a ranger on a Saturday morning with our kids and had a blast searching for sea anenomies, hermit crabs, and fish. Just bring your rain gear!

From historic gun placements to scenic views, I found this park to be an enjoyable day visit. Great views of the coastline coupled with a nice hike made for a good day.

The views were great, there were nice hiking trails, and this was the best places to see whales off the coast.

When you go to Kodiak, plan a trip out to the museum. The hours are short but the hands on museum is so worth the trip. They have working morris code machines, tele-type machines that print out coded messeges, a WWII era phone system and an incredible display of what it was like to serve on Kodiak Island during the... Went to Ft. Abercrombie for several hours with friends and had a great time snapping photos if the beautiful scenery and cooking out at one of the camp sites. It didn't cost anything to pull up to an empty spot near a bunker right before the museum. There's many WWII sites to see along the trail. This was definitely one... More

I stayed in Kodiak for most of the spring/early summer of 2011. This is one of my favorite haunts--several very easy hikes with well marked paths. Also, several places where you can wander off the path and have some peace. Plenty of tables and fire pits for day use and camping sites for overnights. The only drawback that I noticed... More
