Glass Beach has many colorful pebbles of polished glass, which the Ocean has made into pieces of art. Originally it was the site of the local dump in the 1850s to the 1950s. The townspeople used to come throw their trash over the cliff and let it wash to sea, and Mother Nature returned the polished glass to the beach.... More

I can't understand negative reviews about this beach. There is still plenty of glass (and will be for YEARS) to come. You cannot collect glass in the portion of the beach that is annexed by the State Park, but you can hike out to another beach that is city property. At that site, there literally was no sand...just sea glass!

We had seen some really cool pictures and stories about this beach, but when we got there, we almost didn't even notice it was glass pebbles until we got close.

Every time we're here there's a little bit less glass, but this beach is still great fun to visit. ( According to a "native", at one time the entire beach was glass.)

Don't go looking for the beautiful pictures of Glass Beach. There is no glass and there has been no glass for the past 2 years at least. Lovely coastline, worth a visit but you'll be terribly disappointed if you expect to see a glass beach that looks like the pictures.

Love the hunt for treasures and all the climbing/exploring you get to do there. We make sure we visit that beach every time we are in Fort Bragg.

There were still many large pieces when we visited here in 2010. They were mostly brown and white. The medium sized ones were mostly green, yellow and orangey-yellow. We got a couple tiny pieces of red and one speck of blue. So the red and blue must have been the most prized in the past. I had to say we... More

Don't waste your time, here! Too many people have carried off too much of the beauty. It's now just a brown sandy beach littered with trash and very little glass. The walk from where you park to the beach is pretty flat. Once you get to the beach, you have to find your way down the many slopes to actually... More

Having lived and grown up here, I can truly say, this beach used to be littered with glass of every color. Returning back after a 12 year stretch, it is nothing like it once was, the glass went from larger than marbles to smaller then peas. It was actually so small it was hard to explain that it was glass... More

Walking along Glass Beach, in Fort Bragg, CA, is an eye-opener. Nuggets of the past, while not usually gold, lie everywhere. Sometimes after a particularly vigorous tide, or perhaps a lazy tide, the quantity of rounded, scuffed glass pieces is either greater or lesser than usual. It doesn't matter if you are interested in finding interesting pieces to pick up,... More
