Even if you aren't a train fanatic, go to this place. It will be the best 10 bucks ever spent. Two acres of locomotives and rail cars all indoors! They have volunteers that dress in period uniforms who really bring the exhibits to life.
loved this museum, very fun and inexpensive. Perfect location in Old Town Sac. Especially was impressed with the walk-through trains
I love trains. I long for the times when I used to take 24 hour train rides, in the comfort of my own cabin. Ah, good times.
It was good seeing the locomotives and knowing the history behind CA railroads. It was also depressing to learn how the Chinese were mistreated during the CA railroad construction. It is slavery in...

Visited on a Friday...busy with school kids running around, but a great visit nonetheless. Displays are awesome, and that is an understatement. Toy train display upstairs is magnificent but only represents a small portion of the collection. The museum has several train cars you can enter, of particular note is the dining car with its display of various china place...

If you like trains, this is the place to visit. It could use a few more benches to rest, But the Engines are great. We really liked the Pullman car, our grandson went through it twice.

The museum houses authentic steam and diesel engines along with many old railroad cars, such as the private car that Lucius Beebe wrote his books in. Upstairs is a mecca of toy trains and a great layout. With a movie and free tours...

Such fun. Every family should try to visit this museum at least once. Lot's to see...gives you a feel for the past. Afterwards, you might even be tempted to try the train (Amtrak) for a local ride.
I never get tired of the CSRM. It is a great educational place for all ages, especially children. It encourages continued interest and support of the American Rail System, as well as supporting getting more children interested in all aspects of true railroading, past railroading, and model railroading. If more children played with trains, instead of video games, you would...

We love the California railroad museum's setup. Not only do you learn about how the trains built the West but you get to go onto the locomotives and feel what it was like in the past to travel in style.
