Nice 5 mile hike through a variety of terrain with great mountain and canyon views. 2 waterfalls add to the experience. Pretty well marked with a fair amount of uphill. Nothing crazy strenuous but could be considered challenging, especially for those not acclimated to the elevation. Connected to a lot of other trails that provide an easy out into the... More

We had such a great time on the Perimeter Trail! It was very challenging and made pushed hard at times to get through. With the mountain air and terrain, the five miles seemed more like 10! Definitely bring water and snacks! We actually started at Cascade Falls instead of the visitor center, It was a great place to start. Very... More

The Perimeter trail is beautiful and marked pretty well, especially compared to some of the trails we hiked in Telluride a few days earlier. If you start at the visitor's center, it is pretty straight up for about the first half hour or so, but if you can make it past that, it is not too bad. Be sure to... More

The Perimeter trail was a spur of the moment decision as we hadn't known about the trail until the last day we were there. The entire trail took us a few hours as we were taking photos of the beautiful scenery after each turn. Seeing both waterfalls that are in town were great and unexpected and we certainly enjoyed all... More

Lots of scree made this much harder than we would have guessed. There were also some VERY narrow parts of the trail that, along with the scree, made it especially scary for my wife. We did not complete the entire trail.

There are some beautiful spots in this hike - mountain views, waterfall, incredible canyon, cave and town views. I would consider it an easy-moderate hike. There is some climbing but it never lasts long.

A great workout, and gorgeous way to explore the area! Beautiful aspen stands, streams, all kinds of different eco-systems----loved it!

This is a tough little trail, especially if you start out of the Visitor's Center in Ouray and head up the hill. A lot of the first 45 minutes or so is pretty much straight up and this could be tough for some of us seniors, people out of shape, or those not used to the altitude. The views around... More

I hiked part of this trail with my son's family, so our party included me (64), my son & his wife (39 & 40), & 3 children (7, 4, 15 mos). The baby was in a back carrier, but the rest of us walked. The scenery was great, but in places the trail is not well marked. It is also... More
