Everything you read about Vail is true. Great skiing, great ambience, the best ski school for kids and adults
In April, even though fighting a bit of ice in the morning and a bit of slush in the afternoon, I found some perfect slopes in the vast area of the backbowls where I could lay fresh track in a few inches of fresh snow. Did I say I was practically alone? And it's stunningly beautiful.
Growing up in Colorado, we have always visited the different ski resorts and as an adult, we choose to ski Vail every weekend. The expanse of terrain on Vail Mountain allows for all types of skiers and abilities. With the amount of terrain, a skier is able to "get away" from the crowds.
This place is amazing! Gorgeous Scenery, Beautiful Mountains and the best skiing in the U.S. There are shops and many restaurants in the area. Parking is limited. We took a Gondola ride up the mountain for $25.00 and had lunch (included in the $25.00 fee). It is a beautiful area.
We take the mountain tour when we arrive at ski resorts. On our first day, we went on the front side tour that met at mid-Vail. It was a good way to get aclimated and the inside scoop for the best slopes. However, they are more susceptible to spring ski conditions.

Vail definitely outperforms every other resort in the I-70 / Denver area. Best views, huge area, international destination and great hotels, restaurants etc..It is probably the most expensive as well . Breckenridge and Keystone do not come close to it. Winter Park is a nice alternative because less expensive and good skiing - but WP is a family style resort....

But our last day we had over a foot of powder and the mountain is completely transformed.
The trails...

Ski area is huge! Good options for dinner, shopping and some non-snow activities. A must do for any avid skier.
We travelled to Vail for aSpring skiing over school break. My wife and two high school boys.
The mountain(s) were awesome. 190 runs were open and they allowed all levels of expertise from long, blue runs in China Bowl to aggressive expert terrain on Sun Down and Blue Sky Basin.
Lifts are quick and plentiful. One NEVER had the feeling...
