After a good dump of snow this place is just amazing. Easy to get to from vail resort and just no end of area to ski.
Wide expanse of snow! Great trails ! Fewer people makes it nicer to ski there. Cloud Nine my favorite run!! Go back to the top and eat at Two Elk Lodge...
Terrain for everyone, from intermediates to real experts. You can ski the trees in deep powder with terrific steeps around Champagne Glade (and the surrounding area), hop off cliffs (Skree Field), do the steeps (Lover's Leap), or you can stay on the Blue trails with the family in some very different terrain off Pete's Express chair.
The downside is that...

Blue Ski Basin is not open in May. I have been there before though and it's amazing. If you are an experienced skier, than I strongly recommend it.

From the first chair, all the skiers and riders funnel down into the same gully which can get very congested, before coming out at Pete's lift.
Grilling at the top - you have to...

Blue Sky Basin is a poorly kept secret to those in the know about Vail. We enjoy Peak 9, Big Rock Park, The Star and The Grand Review every time we visit Vail. Mostly Blue/Blue-Black skiing in a glade next to the resort boundaries...a little far away from the front side, but worth the trip to get out there. Usually...

The views from Blue Sky Basin are spectacular and so is the skiing. The runs are mostly blue and black with some terrific wide open and glade skiing. Two lifts service the area and lines are usually short or non-existent. Access is usually via China Bowl and a bit of a cat-track.
Outstanding runs for all levels of skiers/boarders. something new on every run. These back bowls are what sets Vail apart from all other CO ski resorts, and it makes for a variety of runs whether you're going for one day or a full week!
Best snow and great runs. Since it's harder to get to, you can go up and down so many more times without long lift lines.
