drove to check out the historic lighthouse - was somewhat disappointed when you could not really drive up near it - very pretty area though and if it were a nice day would have attempted to find parking and walk around

Unfortunately I have been a couple times and just thought it was closed, but it is in fact not open to the public. Maybe someday they can address this because I'm sure a lot of people would like to go inside. Very nice location, worth the travel to view the Point. On the grounds of the University of Conn. Parking is easy, and a very nice foot trail around the point.
I got to see my son's submarine pulling through headed to port after his six month deployment. Awesome views!
it was beautiful.. if only I could've been able to go inside of the lighthouse
The Avery Point lighthouse is a nice walk through the UConn campus. There is a path with a number of commemorated bricks. The view is excellent. You can see the New London Harbor and Ledge lights from Avery Point, so it is kind of like a three for one. A worthwhile stop!
Want a day of relaxation without spending money? Pack and lunch and lawn chairs and go to Avery Point Light....sit and watch the boats, enjoy the water and breath in the fresh air.
Is situated at UCONN Avery Point. Looks right out onto Fisher's Isalnd/Long Island Sound. Recently restored.
