This is such a grogeous museum! I have been bringing my three boys here since they were quite young. I was surprised at how much they really enjoyed viewing the art- especially the gorgeous old paintings. See if your local library has discounted or free museum passes and then take the whole family. You won't be disappointed!
I liked the building itself and the woman who told us about the artist and showed us the paintings and those influenced by the artist (carravagio) was very patient and knowledgeable. enjoyed it immensely.
Not sure if that is the official name of the display but they host it each December. It is absolutely stunning to walk through and see all the decorated holiday trees. Each one is gorgeous and unique.
When we went there was a woman playing lovely flute music in the center of the room and it just added to the...

Lovely building in downtown Hartford. We were in town for a choir conference, and stopped in to catch the Caravaggio exhibit, which was excellent. The museum also has contemporary art, as well as a satisfying collection of Flemish masters. The staff was very helpful, professional yet friendly. We were asked preferences and suggestions were given to personalize our visit. The...

This is one for your list in the Hartford area. Great on any day and wonderful special exhibits too. Love their monthly cocktail parties for adults - usually live music, ballet presentations and excellent food from some of the best restaurants in Hartford! Just a small cover charge and proceeds help benefit museum.
Not too shabby a museum for a local venue. Some of the best Paul Manship sculptures anywhere, plus some of the most ghastly oil paintings this side of the Atlantic. Still, it tries hard to offer something for everybody, even if the somethings are only second- or third-rate works by the masters or near-masters. Worth a trip every once in...
