Our family returns here every time we are in the Keys. We take our own boat out there and tie up to an anchor point (they have a variety of locations). The reef spreads out from the lighthouse and depths range from fairly shallow (4-5ft.) to around 25-30ft. Our kids enjoy snorkeling, and we usually tie up a few floats...

We rent boats and snorkel to avoid the crowds. Sombrero reef is the nicest in the area, and best in the early AM, before the crowded snorkel boats arrive. And most will moor up right next to you even if every other mooring ball is available. GO EARLY!

the boat ride out to the reef was very nice and the scenery was beautiful. Once there the Captain was really helpful to new snorkelers explaining all the details of snorkeling and the fish were stunning!

Easy to get to, many dive & snorkel operations at very reasonable prices in Marathon-Wonderful day trip. Highly recommended, any time of year.

A great little beach. Not too crowded. Free attraction.

Sombrero Reef is a great snorkel spot because it is shallow (8-25 ft) in depth, and has a wide variety of sea life. We bring our own boat and have...
