This museum is nothing short of first-rate. It serves as an important reminder of an horrendous time in history. When a government with a populist leader and a message of hope is grounded in an evil ideology, fueled by lies and driven by terror runs unrestrained - this is what happened. It is incomprehensible. But it happened. This history must... More

This is a great place to visit. It tells a sad story and is a great history lesson. It will touch you emotionally, but it was worth it for me.

We went at 2:00 to avoid the school tours. That was a good idea. The only problem was we were unable to finish walking through. We read all the exhibit information as we strolled through. The good news is that we live nearby and can return for part two. This is a very emotional experience to say the least. I've... More

It's a hard topic to see, but they did an excellent job with videos from survivors and memorabilia. I didn't realize that Skokie was a main area for holocaust survivors. We spent about 3 1/2 hours viewing the museum. Everyone should visit to know what horrors took place and so that it never happens again. Check out the gift shop,... More

I liked the Illinois Holocaust Museum better than the one in DC because this made it more personal. The section at the end of the exhibit focused on artifacts of those that emigrated to Chicago. The design of the museum is first rate. There is an art gallery on the top floor that is worth checking out. There exhibitions and... More

With a Holocaust Museum "in our backyard", there's no reason anyone in Chicagoland (or vacinity) should be ignorant about this horrific event in history. It's not a depressing place, as the one in Washington DC is, but you leave with a real sense of what took place in people's lives- from before the rise of Nazism when things seemed "normal"... More

I had the honor and privilege of visiting the Museum on a recent Saturday for 5 hours.I listened to John;a 93 year old survivor talk to a group of high school students, teachers ,parents. He was a tribute to the human spirit with his courage ,humility and compassion. He credited a German female secretary for saving his life during and SS interrogation. He emboldened... I used a Groupon to get in to the museum which coincided with my daughter's study of WWII. We were all very intrigued and moved by the exhibits. It was easy to follow since the museu's main exhibit ran chronologically which helped her understand the events. She is 13, so it was an appropriate visit for her. Our two hours... More

We came here with the kids and we were so impressed. The main exhibit is beautifully done and very interactive. The upstairs is breathless and a must see. The children loved the kids' section and we were very happy about the messages that were being taught to the kids against bullying. There was a temporary exhibit on spies when we... More

i have been to many Holocaust Museums. This museum was a personal and intimate experience in that your journey began and ended with Holocaust survivors. Because you feel that you know the survivors personally, the journey through the museum is an enlightening experience and very memorable. Questions that were not answered at other museums were answered for me during my... More
