The gardens are exquisite! They are kept very nice and are beautiful to visit in the spring when flowers are just blooming or in the summer when in full bloom.
Beautiful gardens and house. Good restoration with much of the Lilly furniture still in place. Well documented history with many photographs of the house in various stages. A fun look at how the Indianapolis upper class lived in the early 20th century.
We were disappointed with the gardens (they are large, but not particularly beautiful - maybe it was just the wrong time of year to visit) but the house is worth seeing. The downstairs is decorated and furnished and the second floor has exhibits that explain the history of the house and its inhabitants. As BoiseBeaker mentions, this is a free... More
We enjoyed our visit immensely. The house is beautiful and the 100-acre gardens are incredible. You just might see a wedding or two in-progress on the grounds. The house tour begins at the back of the building on the lower level. This is a FREE activity...even the self-guided audio tour is free. You can use your own personal smart phone... More
This beautiful garden is a pleasure to stroll. You have outdoor traditional sculpture and wonderful plantings, mature trees and benches in the shade. The house is set for a future trip as we spent hours in the gardens. If you are a member of IMA then parking is covered, else it costs $5 except for a small surface lot. On... More
The lower level of the house is interesting and furnished. The upstairs is unfurnished, but you can visit it. There is an elevator for the handicapped, but the gardens have no provision for wheel chairs. The gardens are lovely with pretty but rather steep walkways. A relaxing interval.
Visited the Oldfield Eli Lilly Mansion during the Dec. 2012 holiday season. The mansion was beautiful and the tour guides were very informative and helpful. I would recommend this tour as an added bonus to visiting the Indiana Art Museum. It's a great way to spend a day in Indianapolis without spending a lot of money. I would highly recommend... More
This house really impressed me. The first floor was amazing. The Second had no furnishings and tell about the Lilly history, which I kind of find a waste of space. The gardens are some of the best I've seen and the small botanical Garden.
I had been wanting to come down to the IMA Gardens for a while now because I wanted to see the flowers. We went this past weekend (first weekend in May) and it was stunning! All the flowering trees were in bloom and the phlox and bluebells were in full color! It was like something out of a movie to... More
