Salato center is a great place to take the family. First off it's FREE and that's hard to beat. The whole family thought it was great to be able to see the diversity of Kentucky's wildlife. The staff was very nice and ready to answer any questions. My son loved seeing the bears and hiking around the lake.
Very educational. Loved seeing the animals from Kentucky. I am a teacher and I took my class on a field trip there. The staff was very helpful and informative.
The Salato Center is run by the Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources and seeks to show off the diversity of animal life found in the Bluegrass. I make this trip with my two teenage daughters and my 5 year old son and everyone enjoys it, which is hard to do.

A wonderful visit to education kids and adults about natural habitat in Kentucky. If it rains, there is plenty to see indoors. And it is not a zoo. Most animals are in natural habitat.
We (two adults) visited Salato on a Saturday afternoon. The indoor exhibits were educational and included fish, turtles, snakes and other various exhibits.
The outdoor exhibits included a bald eagle, bear, deer, elk, turkeys, bison, and a wildcat. Most of them were sleeping while we visited but it was still nice to stroll around the park. It was quiet, peaceful,...

Lots of animals, good hiking and picnic spot. Lots of people fish there but not much being caught.
the black bears are awesome. the exhibits are well maintained and its a great day trip. You can take a short tour or a long tour based on your group. Self guided and the paths are nice to walk on. I am not fond of the pond with dragonflies but the rest is great.
Love this place. The staff is friendly and the animals are very well taken care of.
