The first time I visited this place, it was a surprise by my husband. We had been on a long hike, and at the end was a door that seemed to be in the middle of the woods. Behind the door was a beautiful garden, with a multitude of different flowers. The garden is meticulously maintained, a treasure to find... More

This is an almost perfect garden, in setting, intent and execution. The design is simple but compelling. I particularly loved the various small red-roofed pavilions. Thuya Lodge next door is also very interesting - I spent a wet but delightful morning browsing the old gardening books, and looking out at the empty garden. Because of the elevation, it's also very... More

There is a very steep walk up steps and slopes from the road, but once you get to the top it is worth it. The house that belonged to Mr. Curtis who willed this property for public enjoyment is a fine example of arts and crafts design. The gardens are a riot of colour and variety. If you can't face... We stopped by as an afterthought, having spent most of the week in Acadia & visiting Lighthouses up & down the coast. Not far from the Asticou Azalaea gardens is a parking lot for Thuya & Asticou Terrace. Diaganally across from the parking lot are stairs to climb Thuya to get to the flower gardens on top. There are beautiful views... More

Thuya gardens were a comedown after the Japanese Azalea garden. The flowers were nice, but little thought to design.

My wife and I visited this last week and were stunned to find a delightful path up from the parking lot beside the road. The views of Northeast Harbor are wonderful. Mr. Curtis' house is a well preserved treasure. The docent was informative but not pushy. The garden full of spectacular plants, butterflies and hummingirds is perfectly groomed and lovely.... More

Even though the flowers were done blooming, it is a beautiful garden to visit. Lush, green, oriental touch and serene.

Asticou is an Asian garden and is so very lovely. Interesting plantings. Thuya Garden is a terrific splash of color, serenity, flowers and trees. Really gorgeous. Both gardens are lovingly maintained.

We were told by our bus driver to be sure and walk the Thuya and Asticou Terraces gardens. The Asticou Azalea garden is an easy walking level Japanese style garden. These gardens are perfect for small children, those with disabilities and picnics. About 1/10 a mile down the road on the opposite side of is public parking in a small... More

Thuya is a beautiful peaceful garden. It has a lawn planted area with many wonderful flowers next to more natural areas. Several nice seating areas - I particularly enjoyed sitting at the top of the somewhat linear flower beds and lawn located on a slope. Gates from the garden seem to lead to hiking trails that go off into the... More
