The Portland Symphony has a relatively new music director, Robert Moody, who is devoted to exquisite classical music performances. He's young and energetic, describes the upcoming performance to the audience and takes questions afterward. We saw PSO perform Mahler's 5th symphony and it was superb. Definitely come out to see this wonderful group if you are in Portland.

Not a huge fan of symphony activies but had a great time. The auditorium is great, you can sit in the lowest priced seats and still have an amazing view. I'd reccomend to anyone interested.

Since moving to southern Maine, I have enjoyed many performances by the Portland Symphony Orchestra. I did not expect the high quality of the musicians nor the terrific talent of the resident conductor, Robert Moody. The concerts are professional, yet welcoming. Moody programs seemingly eclectic pieces, yet manages to make each performance cohesive. His conducting style is clean and expressive... More

Portland Symphony is a nice symphony. I have heard many world class symphonies, and they rank in the top ten. They have a very high opinion of themselves as well. It's a pleasant way to spend a winter afternoon in Portland.

Every seat at Merrill Auditorium is a good seat, and the performance is always great. Few people know you can attend some of the dress rehearsals for free--there were fewer than 50 people there. There is stop and go because it's a rehearsal, but I enjoyed the music nonetheless. Go do some digging on their website.

Outstanding quality for a small city orchestra,or any city for that matter. Proximity to Boston and a superb and ambitious director attracts excellent players. The acoustics are really good and the hall is intimate with no bad seats. Looking forward to Beethovan's Fifth next week!

A truly surprising quality orchestra for the city's size, many of the musicians also play in the Boston Symphony etc. Wonderful acoustics, terrific architecture immaculately preserved.

We are hearing some music which is more modern but very nice. The conductor is a very good man. New or old items which are played are just wonderful. We all love it.

If you are a pop music fan, stay as far as you can away from this place. One the other hand, if you like this kind of stuff sample it here. Then go out to eat at one of the many fine places nearby. On second thought, maybe it would be better to eat first, as most of the places... More
