Certainly amongst the world's leading marine laboratories - if you are in the area call in and marvel at the equipment hat WHOI is able to deploy and learn about it's important research.

If you have children that are interested in the ocean they will love this. Look for programs before you go. Woods Hole is a great little town but very little parking. Even if your not going to the Islands you may want to park in a ferry lot and take a shuttle to the town.
If you're in the area you are probably on vacation and, possibly, with kids. This is a great way to spend a few hours if the weather is iffy. They have a good selection of fish, etc. and it is both educational and fun - and very affordable!
Not sure how to rate this, as I think of it as a place to work rather than visit. If your in to marine biology it's worth taking a tour or stop at the visitor center.
I always enjoy going here when in Woods Hole. I especially enjoy the rescued animals and the information about deep sea creatures. A worthy stop if you find yourself in town.
This is the first 'one star' review I have ever written, and it saddens me to do so. I have been aware of the work that WHOI do for many years. Probably brought to light when their team discovered the Titanic. It has been on my 'must visit' list for years, and I recently had the chance to do so....

We enjoyed this little museum on the backstreets of Woods Hole. Admission is by donation. The film is great with music by Enya and narrated by Cousteau. You will learn all about the deep submersible, Alvin, and go inside a model. There was also an interesting display of the Titanic and a nice little gift shop at the end.
The main buildings were closed but we went to the Museum and loved it, they show a video, the staff is very courteous, and there are interactive displays that are great for learning.
Woods Hole is world renowned for its marine research and exploration. We visited the small museum at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, with its exhibits on the discovery of the Titanic, the use of underwater research subs and the history of their development and use. It takes a good 3-4 hours to read all the boards, and watch all the videos....

This was a coal attraction. I went aboard the little boat and got to explore all kinds of sea life. I got to touch the sea animals and even do some science experiments with them and see what they do. It was great and it wasn't really loud or crowded.
