This museum is small, but its really good for kids. I would recommend going on a guided tour as you get a lot of extra information.

I went with my three children, ages 19, 14 and 11. They went begrudgingly because they thought it would be boring because it's "history". But we all really enjoyed ourselves. Beautiful building and a fun museum. You can go into a copper mine. (sort of) Great for kids and I am nowhere a kid but it's good for me too!

Walks you through the history of Michigan from prehistory through 20th century. Great displays, including the walk through copper mine ,and one room school house. There are docents stationed throughout the museum who are more than happy to answer questions or provide additional information. Lots of hands on stuff so it's a great place for kids of all ages.
